Train-to-NZEB: The Building Knowledge Hubs (2015 - 2017)  
  In July 2015, the Project "Train-to-NZEB: The Building Knowledge Hubs" (Train-to-NZEB) was launched in Bulgaria, Ireland, Germany, Romania, Turkey, Czech Republic, Ukraine (Проект Train-to-NZEB). The Train-to-NZEB Project is designed to establish a functioning network of training and consultation centres (Building Knowledge Hubs, BKHs), providing practical trainings, demonstrations and complex consulting services for the implementation of nearly-zero energy buildings. Using the improved trainig facilities, the BKHs will provide enhanced capacity for conduction of trainings on curricula developed on BUILD UP Skills II, thus reaching a significant number of workers not covered by the initiative. Municipal Energy Reform Project (MERP) (2013 - 2017)  
 

The goal of the Municipal Energy Reform Program is to reduce and mitigate greenhouse gas emissions in Ukraine resulting from the poor use of energy resources, which will lead to strengthened energy security and economic growth.

The Project includes four major activities:

  1. Improve Regulatory and Legislative Enabling Environment for Energy Efficiency and Clean Energy.
  2. Promote Energy Planning, and Investments in Clean Energy and Energy Saving Technologies and Applications.
  3. Capacity Building for Government and Non-Government Organizations with Respect to Energy Efficiency, and Emission Reduction.
  4. Enhance Capacity for the Government of Ukraine (GOU) in Development and Introduction of Low Emission Development Strategies.

 New Generation (2013 - 2015)  
 

The goal of the "New Generation" Project is to develop a conscious and resposnible consumer of housing and communal services and to charge behavioral stereotypes of adults (parents, neighbors). The Project will be split into two stages: a pilot state and an active implementation stage. The task of the pilot stage is to establish a system of distance learning in the area of housing and communal services knowledge and competence for school students. In its turn, it will have impact on adults who reside in micro-rayons located near schools and create a basis for effective Project multiplication in the cities where DTEK is present. The active implementation stage provides for efficient operation of the distance learning on-line system and implementation of a pilot distance learning and game course at pilot schools. Energy Efficient Night Kyiv (2013 - 2014)  
  The main goal of the Project "Energy Efficient Night Kyiv" that is financed by DTEK under its Social Partnership Strategy is to establish an energy efficient street lighting system in one of the districts of Kyiv (Troieschina) and to introduce energy efficiency in operations of a municipal utility that is in charge of street lighting in the city. Other Project’s objectives are: promoting energy efficiency and an energy efficient way of living among population, monitoring and evaluation of a social and economic effect of Project implementation that will make Project dissemination and multiplication possible. Local Alternative Energy Solutions in Myrhorod (LAESM) (2013 - 2015)  
  The Project "Local Alternative Energy Solutions in Myrhorod" works to develop environmentally and economically sustainable energy solutions in Myrhorod rayon of Poltava region, increasing the use of locally available biomass from agricultural residues. The project will develop critical elements of the clean energy infrastructure for local economic development. This will increase economic opportunities in the market for locally produced biomass, reduce CO2 emissions and energy bills, and increase energy independence for the region. These objectives will be achieved by: introducing a supportive regional regulatory environment; developing the infrastructure for collection, treatment, storage of biomass; preparing and implementing a model biofuel boiler facility; and developing a Public Private Partnership framework for private sector driven expansion of biomass in Poltava. Energy Efficient Schools Project (September 2013 - August 2014)  
  MDI implemented the Energy Efficient Schools Project with financing from DTEK Company. In the framework of the Project’s training course "Fundamentals of Heat Supply and Heat Energy Conservation" students of 6th and 8th Forms learned about practical energy efficiency measures and conducted energy audits at school and at home, participated in the competition for efficient use of electric energy, prepared energy efficient projects based on results of energy audits of school premises, and took part in tours to local heating utility companies. In academic year 2012-2013 the Project was implemented in 11 pilot schools of Kyiv. In academic year 2013-2014 ten schools of Kyiv, 20 schools of Dnipropetrovsk and 20 schools of cities of DTEK presence joined the Project. Read more...  
     
  Educational EE Program at basic and secondary level at five schools of Cherkassy (2012)  
  In September through November 2012 MDI, in partnership and with support of Cherkassy Chamber of Commerce who is a beneficiary of the international technical assistance project SPINE (SPIN-Energy Efficiency and Urban Development Planning) funded by the European Commission, implemented the Educational EE Program at basic and secondary level at five schools of Cherkassy. A series of six lessons on energy efficiency helped students learn more about problems related to provision of heating services, energy conservation, energy audit, and energy efficiency at school and at home. Regional Energy Security and Market Development Program (2011 - 2012)
 
 

The National Energy Efficiency Action Planning is aimed to engender political will, identify investment opportunities, and assess the economically feasible potential to reduce energy consumption and dependence in imported fuels in compliance with the Energy Community Treaty for Ukraine, using the successful experience of Albania, Macedonia, Moldova, and Serbia. Municipal Heating Reform in Ukraine (2009-2013)
 
 

The Project aimed at helping Ukraine transform municipal heating into a financially viable, well-managed, and fairly regulated sector that delivers reliable, quality services at affordable prices to the population, public institutions, and local industries. Working closely with the National Government of Ukraine and local governments, the Project strengthened the legal, regulatory, and institutional framework leading to the improvement of heating services, tariff regulations, and compliance with the EU legislation in this sphere. The Program "Affordable District Heating in the City of Alchevsk and Energy Efficiency in the Residential Sector of the City" was designed as a supplemental activity under the Project entitled "Efficient Water Supply in the City of Alchevsk" to increase affordability of district heating services and improve energy efficiency in the residential sector of the City of Alchevsk. Efficient Water Supply in the City of Alchevsk (2007 - 2008)  
 

The Project was designed to establish a model for sustainable Public-Private Alliance (PPA) to identify, evaluate, develop and implement municipal projects for reducing commercial and technical water losses in Ukrainian cities, using combination of international and private donor financing, applying modern approaches for better management of water systems to improve quality and increase affordability of water/wastewater services for residential customers. Assessment of the Status of Decentralization and Services Provision in the Water Supply Sector in Selected Locations in Ukraine (2008)  

 

The Assessment was conducted in the framework of DesPro, the Swiss-Ukrainian Decentralization Support Project designed to provide effective, efficient and affordable services in the water supply and social services areas in the frame of decentralized structures. Assessment of Regulatory and Institutional Framework concerning Rural Water Supply in Crimea (2006 - 2007)

Improving quality and accessibility of basic infrastructure and social services in needy areas was one of the immediate goals of the Crimea Integration and Development Program (CIDP) funded by UNDP. With a social mobilization approach, it helped increase the self-initiative and social cohesion of multi-ethnic rural communities, and improve access to basic social and communal services.
